Grille Swaps!
These will give your Fox a very
unique look!
(If you can find the parts...)
Purpose
To make your car
look different.
What
is available?
Not much :)
No companies make any kits specifically for the Fox. However, parts
from other Volkswagens/Audis and even other makes can be used on VW Foxes.
-
Using VW Dasher (B1)
parts:
-
Since VW Dashers haven't
been made since 1981, finding them is extremely difficult. If you
do find one, buy the whole thing!
-
Here's what Chris had
to tell me about fitting the VW Dasher setup on his VW Fox:
-
I have 4 round headlights
and the grill on my car. Installed in less than 2 hours. Looks
sweet! Needed to modify my turn signals though, but I think I am
going to just fill the corner markers and put on side markers. The
pictures are of work in progress.
-
Using Audi Fox (B1)
parts:
-
This swap might be a
bit easier than the VW Dasher, since the Audi Fox grille wraps around the
front end of the car, thereby eliminating the need to fill in the fenders.
Pictures coming soon.
-
Using Brazilian B1
parts:
-
I have no idea whether
this would work. Brazilian B1 Passats (i.e. VW Pointer GTS) came
with 4 rectangular headlights, looking somewhat like A1 Jettas and Mk2
Sciroccos. I will try to get a picture of a Brazilian B1 soon.
-
Using A2 VW parts:
-
I have only seen one
Fox with this conversion, at Waterfest 2000.
-
Here's what the owner
had to tell me:
-
The grille is the correct
height and width, so there was no need to modify it. He did, however,
have to fabricate mounting brackets, transfter the metal bar under the
lights from the donor car (rad support?), and modify the Fox's stock corner
lights and frames to fit with the new grille. Other than the fabrication,
the owner claimed it wasn't too difficult to do.
.
-
Using aftermarket
Nissan pickup parts:
-
Andrew has a Fox with
a Phantom grille made for a Nissan pickup truck.
-
There wasn't much modification
or fabrication necessary. The grille was trimmed on either side,
and 2 slats had to be cut off so the height would fit the Fox front end.
Aside from this, Andrew had his side marker lights removed. The bumper
cover is designed for A1 Cabriolets.
-
Using Nissan Sentra
parts:
-
I don't know too much
about this. I have heard about someone using a Nissan Sentra (or
Sentra Classic) front clip to modify a Fox. I do not know how it
turned out, and I do not have any pictures.

.
Thanks
Big thanks

Big thanks to Andrew
Karpiak for the Nissan Phantom grille info!
Also to the owner
of the Fox wagon at Waterfest 2000, I'm sorry I don't know your name.
