As you know, the
foxs' bigger brothers (Jetta, Passat, Audi), have a very useful feature
on select models! When you put the key in the ignition the Stereo
comes on (WITHOUT TURNING THE KEY ON!) Since almost ALL VW's use
the same ignition switch (newer models excepted), there is a simple modification,
that can add this feature to your Fox!
1. Remove 2-#2 Phillips
screws from under steering wheel cover
2. Locate Tan/Red
wire coming from ignition switch
3. Strip back approx
1.5-2.0cm of insulation from this wire
4. Verify you have
the correct wire with a test light connected to ground, and the probe end
to the bare wire. Place key in ignition, and light should illuminate.
Remove key, and light should extinguish.
5. Attach a inline
fuse holder (ATC or Glass type), by splicing the wire. Solder and
Tape the splice
Tip, when splicing,
use a thread the needle splice. push a probe or small screwdriver,
thru the centre of the bared back wire to create two equal halves.
Take the wire you are splicing (4cm of insulation should be removed from
this wire), and feed it thru the hole in the middle. Close the loop, by
pushing on both sides, and wind the splice wire, around the spliced to
wire. You can either insulate this with tape by itself, or solder
it to ensure a lasting connection. (This is a self tighting knot,
and there is no possibility of the joint coming loose, when done correctly)
6. Attach the opposite
end of the fuse to the ACC wire of your deck, Solder and tape the
splice.
Enjoy your radio
without having to manually shut it off every time you leave your car!
