Babylon Disco : Natsukashii
"Il progetto Babylon Disco nasce di recente: questo Nagukashii è infatti il
secondo lavoro di lunga durata pubblicato ancora una volta grazie
all'interessamento della label D-Trash, ed ancora in versione Cdrom, in linea
con la politica del titolare dell'etichetta canadese, convinto che questo
formato rappresenti il futuro della musica (spero si stia sbagliando!); comunque
il dischetto è stampato professionalmente e di buona fattura tecnica. Il
contenuto dell'album mescola stili diversi: dalla broken beat, all'hardcore,
fino al post industrial fatto di rumori e samples, mentre su tutto svettano
delle fantastiche sonorità in analogico che rimandano ai prodotti elettronici di
fine anni '70, in particolar modo emerge imponente il legame con certa
produzione minimale giapponese, il primo nome che viene in mente sono i Logic
System, ma la lista sarebbe in realtà lunga. La stessa copertina rimanda al
datato minimalismo del sol levante anche dal punto di vista iconografico, mentre
il titolo "Natsukashii" significa appunto nostalgia per il passato. Se le
tastiere guardano indietro, le percussioni elettroniche tengono ritmiche moderne
e aggressive, così, alla luce di tali connotati di base, appare magistrale il
brano "Science", completamente costruito su linee melodiche di vecchi synth,
arricchiti da accelerazioni hardcore. Il risultato finale è di gran livello:
Babylon Disco riesce a superare i limiti del kitsch, trappola sempre aperta
quando si tenta di avvicinare periodi e stili diversi e apparentemente
incongruenti, mettendo a punto un cocktail micidiale a partire da materiale
preesistente fuso con l'elettronica moderna. Un album frutto della rabbia e
della nostalgia: probabilmente la migliore produzione della D-Trash in questi
ultimi anni.
