Contra : Unknown Animals
I like Contra. Especially the last couple releases of theirs I've heard. They keep pushing the boundaries of glitch and DHC and each time the result is somewhat different. "Unknown Animals" has the project taking more of a kind of very experimental IDM route, kind of like a much more insane earlyish Autechre.
That DHC middle finger is still firmly in place though, as is obvious from their blatant usage of Nirvana samples and occasional bursts of prankster glee. But the overall focus here is much more on an overall groove and cohesiveness, with a lot of attention being paid to glitchy rhythms and simply beautiful abstract soundscapes. Every track opens up a new door into a very unique audio experience, offering just the right amount of chaos and structure. Contra is the future of cool glitchy IDM music, and if your ears are turned on by either of those genres, you NEED this record. Highly recommended for sure.
